Get Out Of The Can!!!!

Okay, so get your minds out of the toilet because that's NOT what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about soda. Yes, I said soda.

I love diet pepsi and diet coke. I switch on and off as I get bored with one, but the one thing I never get bored of is drinking from the can. I don't know why, but I can't stand soda from a plastic or glass container. It just doesn't taste the same. Yet I can't stand beer from a can, that has to be in a longneck for me to enjoy, go figure.

But back to soda.

A can just seems to have more carbination than glass or plastic.

My dilemma....

My husband is a pharmaceutical specialty rep for the neurology division. The other night he had a dinner program for his docs, and he had this big name doctor give the presentation. Well, didn't he learn something new and come right home immediately to tell me.

Drinking soda out of the can is really, really bad for you! It's been linked to Alzheimers. Something in the metal affects the brain. Your best bet is to buy the soda in glass or plastic bottles. You can still buy it in the can, but just pour it into a glass.

Well, I tried that. It just wasn't the same. Didn't taste half as fizzy. It's probably a mental thing, probably affected my brain already, but I'm telling you, it was'nt the same. I only drink one or two sodas a day, so I probably don't drink enough to make a difference.

Still, I would like keep my brain intact.

one or two a day??? maybe I will have that in a week...remember the make a penny shiney trick with soda? but... I hear you on the bubbles for me the twist top plastic helps hold the bubble longer.

Add this to my life of health worries...

actually i just had this coversation with someone at bowling. Canned soda does taste different. I am not that picky about my beverages but most people are. My one friend swears by Cherry Coke in a can. Not in plastic or a bottle or draft or other wise. Weird.

I know this is weird, but I can drink a whole can of diet coke in no time flat...but if I pour it into a glass...I can't drink the whole thing! I don't know why! I love drinking it out of a can! My brain be damned!!! Hey, I'm very forgetful anway, so what does it matter.....what were we talking about now?

that's just plain freaky. I always heard that you should wipe the rim of the can before you drink out of it anyway (sometimes I do, sometimes I don't) because the cans sometimes sit in warehouses before they are shipped and "critters" do nasty things on them. I guess there are cases where people have actually gotten sick from that. (Jen - wasn't that in an email you sent us??) But I'd heard that before too from a woman I used to work with. She loved her soda in a can, but she ALWAYS put a straw in it! (go figure)

I try not to drink soda anyway. I go in spurts buying it. I find when DH and I are trying to cut down on the wine/beer... I tend to buy the diet soda.

Thanks for stopping by, Doggybloggy. One or two a day is mild compared to some people I know.....ahem, Jen.....

And I'm with you on that one, cakes. I don't need to worry about that too. I have to have my can of soda once a day while I write. And I really hate it in a glass. But if my hubby catches me with the can, he won't be happy.

Ugh, what to do.

Good post. And I USED to drink 2 - 4 diet pepsi's or diet cokes a day until I heard how bad it is for you.

Diet coke was my coffee. I NEVER, NEVER in my whole life drank coffee until one cold blizzardy day, one friend of mine, suggested a Peppermint Mocha.

She hooked me at Starbucks. The evil-doer. I am sure she was commissioned by them to snag me.

Now I'm about a 5 Starbucks a week kind of girl.

But only a diet coke once or twice every two weeks. Don't miss it.

But, if I DO have one, it has to be from a soda fountain, where I control the ice-soda ratio. Or if I buy it at the store, it has to be from the can for me also, but I don't drink it out of the can. I need ice baby!

Ice, Ice baby, too cold.

'Nuff said. I'm out.

Too cold...
Don't get me started on Funky Cold Medina now girls...

I love drinking Coke heavy out of a can. It is probably the best tasting soda.

I think I prefer drinking beer out of a bottle, but every so often, there is nothing like a 6-pack of BL out of a can. Nothing beats draft beer though.

One thing that you said concerning the disease caused by drinking soda out of a can reminds me of everything talked about in Men's Health. 30% of not having Heart conditions if you eat this...45% of not getting cancer if you consume that. However, if you have one of something, you are having too much of another.

The way I see it: everything should be done in moderation. Drink coke out of a can, just don't drink it everyday.

Ugh! I have one every other day or so .. but I want it in the CAN. It isn't the same when you put it in the glass, less fizz, it doesn't stay cold ... blech. Like Patricia said ... add it to the list!

Soda is totally better in the can! I say drink it anyway ... there are about a million other things that'll kill you first.

I love it out of a can and cant stand it in the two liter bottles that said the cans here are expensive over 13-16 dollars per case of 24

I'm not too picky when it comes to can or bottle. But I am picky about brand. (Coke just tastes better than Pepsi.) However, now that I've read your post, I have one more thing to worry about. I better leave the soda alone. I need the little bit of brain power I have left. LOL.

OK, I had to laugh at Frannie proclaiming:

I want it in the can!!!!

Naughty naughty

I have an awesome solution to your problem: plastic bottles.

There. Problem solved.

I'm addicted to Diet Coke. I swear, honestly, that they still keep trace amounts of cocaine in that stuff, because I've never met anyone that drinks a "moderate" amount of DC. Never.

I'm the same way, but I only like soda from a soda fountain, like they have in restaurants...I think it's because it has so much less carbonation. Funny how different everyone is in what we crave and what we don't like at all!

Kari Lee Townsend said...

That is funny, Manic. You naughty, naughty girl, Frannie.

And Dorky Dad, I hate soda from plastic!!! I also usually drink Diet Pepsi so I'm good at one a day, but my friends drink Diet Coke and you're right, they have a ton. Hmmmm, wonder if it is the "coke".

Amanda, I don't know how you do it without any caffeine. I couldn't survive.

And Trish, I hate soda fountains because they never get the consistency right. It's either flat and syrupy, or overcarbinated without enough syrup. Bleck.

Why do I have to like it the worst way???

Kari Lee Townsend said...

PS Manic. I answered your question about what was or was not in my purse, on the fly girl blog;-)

Part of me really wishes you hadn't blogged this information. I pretty much only drink Cokes from a can (Even though I've quit, I occasionally have one), and it's because of the carbonation...soooo much fizzier in the can.

Now I need to decide what to do with this info...

My hubs drinks SEVERAL cans and plastic bottles of soda each day. I'm not fond of his habit, but I like it better than the cigarettes he sneaks. I rarely drink soda because the carbonation doesn't jive with my system. (I just had a bad experience with Pepsi Jazz from a 2-liter bottle. Oy.)

Mr. A said...

Have you tried the Coke Zero or Pepsi One?

Awesome!

And I drink it out of the can God Damn It!

Because you're right! It sucks any other way. I say, 60 years of enjoying your beverage is worth a few years of brain damage.

Truthfully, I'd be more concerned with cancer.

You ever read the label on those things ;-0

Naughty ... me. No way.
All sweet and innocent here!

Soda - mmm. I like my fair share too, though I've seen quite a few things said about it recently. I posted some on the blog workout site.

And cutting soda has some big benefits.

btw, how'd you do with the workouts?
